10 - 9Sprinting Woes |
Today I did my final sprint tune-up, and it wasn't pretty. I still haven't found my spikes so I may end up buying some because I haven't a prayer without them.
It was suppose to be an easy workout but I decided after warming up that I needed to push it a little. I ran 4X 100, 4x200, 1X300 all at around 12-14 second 100's except the 300 that I did in around 48. I say around because I'm timing everything with the second hand on my watch since all of my sport watches are broken.
The 300 was hard. Now I wasn't going all out on any of these. I was trying to keep a loose, easy, relaxed pace--which I did--until the 300. The last 50 was rugged. The next 100 would have been ugly. From this I made the observation that I'm sure that I could do one quarter and one 200 in the given time but that I would build up so much lactic acid I might not be able to continue.
Now strategy becomes an issue because I need to make a decision on how to use mulligans (I haven't totally given up that I will make it but I'm looking at possible scenarios). Do I run one at the proper time and just see how the others go, or try to keep a pace that I know I can repeat. At any rate I think I will move the sprinting events around so that I can train a little longer for the quarters.
Tonight I bought groceries to last me the next week. Tomorrow I leave for Santa Barbara for a quick bouldering session, then it's off to Berkeley to load the rest of my stuff (and hope I find my spikes) and then over to Yosemite to try and get some good rest before Thursday night.
Oh yeah, it's raining in Yosemite right now.
